Obituary
Barbara Mariama Issiakou, of Bethesda, MD, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 2, 2023.
She is survived by her beloved mother, Patricia Ann Garate, sister Zalika Christine Issiakou, and brother Ibrahim Mahamadou Issiakou, as well as by her extended loving family, supportive neighbors, and friends.
Barbara was born in 1994 at Columbia Hospital for Women in Washington, DC. She grew up in Bethesda and graduated from Walter Johnson High School before attending Montgomery County Community College in Maryland. She had many loves, most of which were her family and friends, but also travel, yoga, nature, and athletics. Barbara was spiritual, practiced mindfulness, had boundless curiosity, and enjoyed deep conversations with friends.
Visitation will be held at St. Bartholomew Church, 6900 River Rd, Bethesda, MD 20817, Saturday, December 9, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., followed by the funeral service at 11:00 am, and a repast at noon. Interment to follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. May she forever rest in peace.
