Obituary

On October 19, 2025, David M. Quick passed away to be with his Lord and Savior. He was born on May 31, 1944, in Washington, D.C., the eldest son of the late David M. Quick and Regina Lewis.

David was an adventurous and spirited child who loved spending his days playing baseball and fishing alongside his father. Surrounded by friends and siblings, he was never without company. Together, they were a lively presence who joyfully “ran the neighborhood”. He graduated from Calvin Coolidge High in 1962. David learned his strong work ethic from his father. He often helped him set up and serve at St. Alban’s Church, and when his father fell ill, David and his brothers continued serving the church. Their dedication and hard work did not go unnoticed. They were frequently complimented for their efforts.

Leadership and planning came naturally to David, and while attending Howard University, he joined the ROTC program, setting the foundation for his military career. This path led him to serve in the U.S. Army Reserves, where through dedication, integrity, and perseverance, he rose through the ranks to become a Command Sergeant Major, a role he carried with great honor and pride for over 30 years.

In 1966 David met the love of his life, Gloria. The two quickly formed a deep and lasting bond, and on July 15, 1967, they were united in marriage, beginning a lifelong partnership built on love, faith, and devotion. David and Gloria started their family in 1970 with the birth of their son, Derrick, and later expanded it in 1976 with the birth of their daughter, Lori. David was a Branch Manager of multiple branches of Household Finance Corporation until the mid-1980’s and later ran collection departments for subsequent financial institutions where he was employed. He also was an active member in the Jay Cees  when he was first married and later served as the President of the Quail Valley Homeowners Association.

Coming from big family, David deeply cherished spending time with his own family and taking them on countless adventures. They traveled to amusement parks, campgrounds, beaches where they went fishing and crabbing, and enjoyed boat rides and swimming. David may have been from the city, but he soon found a second home in the country. There were many sun drenched fun-filled days of outdoor activities riding go-carts, motorcycles, dirt bikes and just absorbing all the Eastern Shore of Maryland had to offer. David especially loved attending his wife’s family reunions, where he could be found at the grill, barbecuing, frying fish, and sharing his favorite old stories with laughter and love. David was civic minded and felt a deep joy when he coached or watched his children’s sports teams and their participation in civic endeavors. Family is how he lived his life. Family was not defined by blood,  it was defined by love, and all who walked through his door knew they were always welcomed.

Retirement did not slow David down. He became an active member of the local Buffalo Soldiers chapter in Allen, Maryland, where he proudly served as president. David and Gloria traveled together to Buffalo Soldiers conferences and continued to share many new experiences, embracing every opportunity to connect with people and celebrate life. In his later years, he found comfort and community as a faithful member of Friendship United Methodist Church.

David leaves behind his devoted wife, Gloria Quick; one loyal son, Derrick M. Quick (Kellie); and three beloved grandchildren, Sydney, Garrett, and Brielle. He is also survived by his cherished daughter, Lori Quick-Hill, and her late husband, Ronald Hill. David is remembered fondly by his brother, Ronald Quick (Catherine), and his five sisters, Judy Harrison (William), Deborah Quick-Scales, Polly Brown (late husband Nathan), Linda Cameron (Brummitt), and Barbara Green “Tinky” (Johnnie).

He also leaves behind several loving nieces and nephews — Ronald Jr., Richard, Ryan, Lauren, Jennifer, and Regina — who will continue to honor his memory. May those who preceded him in death welcome him home with open arms.
